We’re excited to share some insight into our process so you can have a better understanding of how we put together our shares, why you might not receive everything listed in the newsletter, and what goes into making Muddy Boots CSA such a success.
Planning for the Week
Our dedicated farmers start planning for the upcoming week’s share the weekend before pick-up. Even with detailed planning at the beginning of the season, the weather can sometimes impact what’s ready to be harvested. That’s why our farmers discuss what’s at peak and what items would work well together in the share. Justin at Burnt Rock Farm keeps track of the value of each item to ensure that both members and farmers benefit from the CSA. Once the tentative share is decided, Robin starts putting together the newsletter.
Tentative Shares
Until the veggies are harvested on Tuesday, we don’t know exactly what will be in the share. Changes can occur due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances, such as an unexpected crop of corn or a shortage of cucumbers. We’ll do our best to keep you informed of any changes!
Pick-Up Day
The weekly newsletter is sent out on Tuesday morning to give you an idea of what to expect. Pick-up day is Wednesday, and our pick-up coordinator is ready to greet you starting at noon. We kindly ask that you don’t arrive early, as we may not have all items available until closer to noon. Pick-up is available between noon and 6pm, and any unclaimed produce will be donated to Community Harvest of Central Vermont.
Packing and Holding Shares
If you requested your share to be packed and held, it will be available in the grab-and-go cooler at the back of the pick-up area on Thursday morning. If you forget to pick up your share on Wednesday, don’t worry! You can stop by the farm and pick up one of the extra shares we packed up on Wednesday. However, please keep in mind that we only pack up a few extra shares, so it’s first-come, first-served. Also, please don’t take a bag with someone else’s name on it. We want to make sure everyone gets their share of fresh, delicious produce!
